With my watercolour places paintings, I like to leave the edge exposed and organic to showcase the unique characteristics of the medium. In many of these paintings, some elements have been moved or added to give a better feeling of the place.
I put a lot of thought and planning into my paintings. Getting to know a little bit about the surroundings and the things about the house that make it special to the homeowner. I try to notice all the details before I decide what should be kept, left out, featured or minimized in the final composition. I almost always do a small, loose colour study to plan out the colours and composition. I try to keep these loose and use the parts I like to inform the final painting.
